Frequently Asked Questions

  • Masseter injections may be suitable if you have overactive or enlarged masseter muscles and would like to soften the appearance of a square jaw, or if you experience jaw clenching, teeth grinding (bruxism) or tension associated with the masseter muscles.

Treatment is not suitable for everyone. Your medical history, current medications and facial anatomy will be assessed during your consultation to determine whether treatment is appropriate for you.

  • Yes.

The aim is to reduce excessive activity in the masseter muscles rather than prevent them from functioning. Normal chewing is maintained, although very tough foods may feel slightly different while the muscles adjust following treatment.

  • Following a consultation and assessment, small injections are carefully placed into the masseter muscles on each side of the jaw. The treatment itself is relatively quick, and most people can return to their usual daily activities afterwards.

  • The effects develop gradually as the masseter muscles relax. Initial changes may become noticeable within the first few weeks, while changes in facial contour can continue to develop over several weeks as the muscles gradually reduce in size.

  • Results vary from person to person, but the effects typically last for several months. Factors including muscle strength, individual response and treatment history can influence how long results last. Maintenance treatment may be discussed where appropriate.

  • Downtime is usually minimal. Temporary redness, tenderness, swelling or small bumps can occur around the injection sites shortly after treatment. You will be given personalised aftercare advice following your appointment.
